What if Game of Thrones took place in the 80s and 90s? Would Joffrey be as brutal? Jon Snow as cool? Jaime as cunning?
Tokyo-based French graphic designer Mike Wrobel is tackling that question with an art series transporting the characters from Westeros to the late 20th Century.
“I grew up with Fresh Prince,Saved by the BellThe X-Files. I was listening to Nirvana and Pearl Jam,” Wrobel tells The Hollywood Reporter. “So I just thought it would be funny to imagine what a fantasy show like Game of Thrones would look like in a contemporary period, to appropriate the characters and turn them into something quirky that reflected their personalities.”
On Joffrey’s look, Wrobel says: “I focused a lot on making him still look like a douchebag. … People love to hate him!”
For Jaime, Wrobel gave him the Miami Vicetreatment. “He’s a snobbish, arrogant, playboy. He had to wear this cool retro suit."
Since baby dragons were in short supply in the 80s and 90s, Daenerys received some ferrets as a stand-in for her beloved pets.

On Jon Snow Wrobel says: “It was immediately obvious for me he would have this grunge look.”
He describes Arya as being a “tomboy with a style straight out of Saved by the Bell.”
Since Brienne favors armor, Wrobel figured football pads would be the modern day equivalent for the lady knight.
